Drei Gebäude in Deutschland gewinnen 2014 den RIBA Award für vortreffliche Architektur

(19.6.2014) Das Lenbachhaus in München von Foster + Partner, die Baakenhafen-Brü­cke in Hamburg von Wilkinson Eyre Architekten und David Chipperfields Erweiterung des eigenen Büros in Berlin erhalten den RIBA Award 2014. Das königliche Institut Bri­tischer Architekten (RIBA) gab heute (19. Juni) die 2014er Gewinner der nationalen sowie der EU-Awards bekannt.

Insgesamt werden die RIBA Awads für vortreffliche Architektur in diesem Jahr für 56 Gebäude in Großbritannien und Europa vergeben. Die Sieger der nationalen und der EU-Awards werden am 4. Juli im Rahmen einer Veranstaltung des Gastgebers Hiscox geehrt. Der Spezialversicherer Hiscox ist auch Sponsor der RIBA Manser Medaille für das beste neue Heim in Großbritannien.

Von den 56 ausgezeichneten Gebäude kommen einige auch in die engere Auswahl für den RIBA Stirling Preis für das Gebäude des Jahres. Die entsprechende Shortlist soll am 17. Juli bekannt gegeben werden. Der RIBA Stirling Preis wird an die Architekten des Gebäudes vergeben, das den größten Beitrag zur britischen Architektur im ver­gangenen Jahr geleistet hat. Der Preis soll am 16. Oktober in London überreicht wer­den.

RIBA Präsident Stephen Hodder sagte im Rahmen der Bekanntgabe des RIBA Awards: „This year’s RIBA National and EU Award winners show that exceptional architecture can be found anywhere: on any high street, in any village or town, and with any budget. Good architecture always begins with a committed client and it is extremely heartening to see in this year’s crop of winners, the increasing recognition, notably in the public sector, of the vital role of good design in attracting visitors, students and clients and of the dramatic influence that a beautiful building has on communi­ties and pride. These buildings show the challenges that can be overcome with pure architectural creativity - in the case of the London School of Economics’ student centre, a vertical labyrinth was created to deal with a constricted London site; at the TNG Youth Centre in Lewisham the architect helped find funding to enable the building to happen; and with the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, the design team resolved the most complex brief: strict atmospheric conditions on a historic site. It is evident that each building on this year’s list has been a labour of love but worth every penny and effort.”
